Artists, educators and other community leaders met recently in East York to work on forming a Local Arts Service Organization to foster opportunities for arts collaboration and community engagement. “We will explore strategic partnerships to build a vibrant arts infrastructure in East York,” Councillor Davis explained. Greening East York

Toronto has installed a photo-voltaic system on the south-facing roof of the East York Civic Centre which will produce about 37,000 kilowatt-hours per year. The solar panels will supply about 10% of the electricity needed to light the EYCC.

Big Plans for Toronto East General Hospital

The hospital plans a major redevelopment that includes replacement of 80-year-old spaces. A new eight-story building will be built on the corner of Coxwell and Sammon Avenues. The project is estimated to cost over $210 million dollars, with $60 million of that coming from private donors.

Easier Access at Victoria Park Station

Councillor Davis’s long advocacy of rehabbing the Victoria Park Subway/Bus Station has paid off. The recent station modernization has made the station accessible to persons with disabilities and added important ecological improvements, like a Green roof.

During an Extreme Heat Alert, the public is encouraged to call or visit family, friends and neighbours, especially isolated adults and seniors who are at greater risk of suffering from heat-related illness, to make sure they are cool and drinking plenty of fluids.
