City Hall Update, June 2011

The Mayor of Toronto directed City staff to undertake a “Core Service Review” to identify options for reducing, eliminating or contracting out city services. Other reviews are also underway to look at user fees and “service efficiency studies”. The KPMG Core Service review is now complete.


Toronto Community Housing – Sale of Houses

Council authorized the sale by Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC) of 22 of its houses on the open market. I made several motions to assist current residents, and to repairs existing homes from the revenue of those sales…


New board for TCHC

Council has appointed a new board of directors for the Toronto Community Housing Corporation – where all the appointments to the board come from the right-wing of Council and exclude any Toronto and East York representation.


Paid-duty Policing

Council adopted recommendations made by the Auditor General with the intention of reducing the City’s annual expenditures on paid-duty policing for works projects and special events.


Toronto – Most Sustainable

The City of Toronto is the most sustainable large city in Canada, according to Corporate Knights Magazine, which released its 2011 Most Sustainable Cities Ranking today at the FCM Sustainable Cities Conference in Victoria, B.C.

This is the second year that Toronto has received this honour.
